Dell Adamo XPS Ultra-thin Laptop Features Intel CULV Processor & 256GB SSD Drive

Dell has recently launched Dell’s premium high-end ultraportable Dell Adamo XPS Laptop that is one of the thinnest laptop in the world which is slim, thin, lightweight, and sports a 13-inch form factor with excellent build quality.
Measuring 9.99mm or just four-tenths of an inch, the Dell Adamo XPS laptop set new standards for craftsmanship, design and engineering excellence.
The Dell Adamo XPS ultra-thin laptop is a stunning laptop whose design provides a unique experience. With the swipe of a finger, the keyboard appears from under the display as the system is open.
The feature set challenged engineers to build the latest technology into a compact space, including:
  • 4GB DDR3 800 memory
  • Intel Core 2 Duo (1.4Ghz) ultra-low voltage processor
  • Thin 128GB SSD for faster, cooler, quieter and more durable storage than traditional hard drives
  • A 13.4-inch high-definition display

The attention to detail is apparent in the black, jewelry box-like packaging that is as striking as the laptop itself.
A tug on a cloth loop reveals the Dell Adamo XPS ultra-thin laptop and assorted accessories that accompany the system.
The Dell Adamo XPS laptop was recently recognized as the hottest Windows 7 product by leading technology analyst Rob Enderle with Digital Trends.
Adamo, is  derived from the Latin word meaning “to fall in love,” is a flagship in a line of products created to disrupt the personal computing space with the combination of new design aesthetics, personalization choices and sought-after technologies.
The Adamo XPS by Dell brand was launched last March with the first Adamo laptop, which combined high-performance technologies in a finely-machined aluminum case only .65-inch thick.
“Our engineers and designers are breaking new ground and throwing away the old rules with the introduction of Adamo XPS,” said Alex Gruzen, senior vice president of Dell consumer products. “We think the Adamo XPS will inspire an emotional connection with anyone who sees it.”

Laptop vs Notepad

Let's look at the notebook computer first.
The Notebook Computer
A standard notebook has the following features:
1. Ultralight. Less weight is better.
2. 4 - 5 hour battery life.
3. No internal floppy drive.
4. Minimal graphics subsystem.
5. No internal DVD or CD system.
6. 12" - 14" TFT screen.
7. Low profile (thin).
8. Integrated modem and network connection.
9. Smallest possible keyboard that retains functionality.
10. Low power consumption Celeron/Centrino or Sempron style processor.

Dell Inspiron 1501 Notebook Computer for Business
In essence a notebook computer is designed to provide mobile computing that won't break your back yet still offer all the power the mobile users requires for work and some leisure pursuits. This portability normally comes at a price. The level of minituarization involved comes at a cost and high end notebooks can prove to be quite expensive.

The Laptop Computer
Now for the laptop computer. Again look at the name. A laptop is designed to sit on your lap and you can therefore expect it to be quite large and loaded down with features and power. The
The standard laptop computer would have some ,if not all, of the following features:
1. 14" - 17" (widescreen) TFT screen.
2. Nvidia GeForce or ATI Radeon graphics subsystem.
3. Internal DVD-ROM or DVD-RW drive
4. Large full featured keyboard.
5. 3 hour+ battery life.
6. Upgradeable.
7. Integrated modem, network, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi capabilities.
8. High quality integrate audio and speaker system.
9. Low power consumption, high performance Intel Centrino style processor.
From reading the above information you'll see that the notebook is the exact opposite of the laptop. Notebooks offer reasonable power and extreme portability. Laptops are designed to be capable of replacing an entire desktop PC if necessary whilst still offering desktop performance in a mobile platform. Hopefully this article has helped clear up the differences between both classes of portable computers. As time and technology moves on the line between laptop and notebook will continue to blur but for right now it's still clearly defined and driven by the demands of the portable computer market.

ASUS Eee PC 1000 XP

Ever since the Eee PC 4G opened up the mini-notebook market last year, Asus has been pumping out different flavors of the Eee, including versions of the original with XP and models sportingslightly larger screens and a multitouch pad. With the $460 Eee 1000H 80G XP, though, Asus addresses many of the previous problems we've had with earlier mini-notebook models--and it creates a solid second-gen machine in the process.

The newest member of the Eee family offers the same Intel Atom processor, 1GB of RAM, and 80GB hard disk as MSI's Wind NB U100. It has a 10-inch display and measures 10.5 by 7.5 by 1.5 inches (about the size of a hardcover book, and only slightly larger than the MSI Wind). The Eee 1000H is also fairly heavy for a mini-notebook, weighing about 3.6 pounds including the six-cell battery packed underneath. (On the plus side, the battery lasted about 4 hours, 32 minutes in our tests.) With the Eee 1000H's design the way it is, you might as well call it an ultraportable--in heft, if not performance.

The Atom processor may be passable for last-gen apps and small devices, but it's downright mopey if you're hoping to run Vista. And it isn't exactly a speed demon in XP, either: On our WorldBench 6 tests, the Eee 1000H received a score of 37, a point higher than MSI's Wind got. For the most part, though, this model's performance is consistent for what we're finding with XP-based mini-notebooks running an Atom processor and 1GB of RAM.

One thing that sets the Eee 1000H apart from the other mini-notebooks we've seen is its spacious, comfortable keyboard. I'd probably put it on a par with what you'd expect to find on a full-featured ultraportable laptop. The keyboard, coupled with an array of useful shortcut keys, makes this mini-notebook very easy to use. One key turns off the monitor, another switches the resolutions, the third changes the performance settings, and the last is user configurable. And the keys aren't the only things that work well: The touchpad offers a sensual feel and is fluidly responsive, and the mouse buttons are firm, metallic, and well mounted.

The display's native 1024 by 600 resolution looks reasonably sharp on the 10-inch screen. With a quick toggle of the shortcut key, you can pop through a number of "optimized" resolutions. The only real use I've found for the resolution gear-shifter is that it's helpful for trying to fit some oddly formatted Web pages to the screen; otherwise, you can always output video through the VGA port. A firm, flush bezel surrounding the screen and the 1.3-megapixel camera securely locks everything in place. The case has a smooth yet slightly textured feel.

Suprisingly, the Eee 1000H's audio sounded crisp, and richer than I had expected. Maybe that's the result of Dolby Sound Room technology (which Dolby says extends the speakers' bass response up an octave, and widens the sound space that the speakers project). Elvis's "Suspicious Minds" rang clear; Run DMC's "Walk This Way" sounded a little tinny, but good enough that I was able to forgo plugging in headphones. I'd even say that the Eee 1000H can fill up a small room (or office cubicle) with tunes.

One other unexpected twist: Asus preinstalls some handy software, including Microsoft Works, StarOffice, and Skype.

In other respects, the Eee 1000H provides exactly what you might expect from a mini-notebook in expandability and layout. It includes three USB ports, an SD Card slot, VGA-out, headphone/microphone jacks, and an ethernet jack.

I liked the thorough manual, too. It's funny, really: Many makers of high-end notebooks don't even bother--simply tossing a PDF in the box--and yet this well-laid-out book covers all the bases.

Asus' Eee 1000H is among the leaders in the mini-notebook market. This model offers a sizable keyboard, a solid screen, and a clean and comfortable layout, just beating out the MSI Wind. Buyers beware, however: It's a device that's roughly the size of an ultraportable yet has half an ultraportable's power (albeit at more than half an ultraportable's price).

ASUS Eee PC 900

Late last year, Asus broke open the mini-notebook category with the slight, light, and affordable Eee PC 4G. Who wouldn't want a machine that weighs 2 pounds and measures about 8.9 by 6.5 by 1.4 inches (width by depth by height)? At $399, the Linux-based portable became a viable laptop for cost-conscious business travelers and students alike. Since that time, we've seen a refreshed model that offers Windows XP (the Eee PC 4G XP), and now we have the Eee PC 900.

So what's the big difference between the models that have come before and this flavor of the month? The Eee PC 900 provides a larger screen without adding much to the overall size of the device--and it sports a multitouch touchpad, too. What kind of bizarro world do we live in where the only machines you can find such a feature are premium Apple computers or value-priced Windows systems?

While the latest Eee remains saddled with the same microscopic keyboard that's nigh impossible for an adult male to type upon, the small touchpad offers some big improvements. The multitouch pad is simple and small, but certainly effective. You move two fingers downward to scroll a window. You spread two fingers apart to zoom in, or scrunch them together to zoom out. Sound familiar? Yeah, it's what you've seen crop up on a number of Apple products, and you get that very same functionality with this budget PC.

Inside, you'll find most of the same Eee guts that folks have come to know and love, including a 900-MHz Intel CPU and a 4GB internal hard drive (it also ships with an 8GB SD Card). That meager amount of hard-drive space was insufficient real estate for our lab to drop in our WorldBench 6 tests to see how the Eee PC 900 performs under pressure. In my informal tests, I was able to gauge a couple of basic things, such as boot time and program startup. In those cases the Eee PC 900 was a hair faster than the 4G model running XP--but that's largely due to the fact that this new model has 1GB of DDR2 RAM, in contrast to the 512MB in last year's version.

Though I dig the new touchpad and the larger, crisp 8.9-inch 1024-by-600-pixel display, the Eee PC 900 isn't a "must-buy" laptop--at least not yet, considering its $549 asking price. If this new model cost $50 to $100 less, maybe, but the market is continuing to fill up with competing mini-machines, and several are hovering around $600. Don't get me wrong, the Eee PC 900 is still a good deal, but suddenly the HP 2133 (with models selling between $500 and $750) isn't looking too bad, either.

BlackBerry Style 9670

RIM’s first attempt at a flip BlackBerry wasn’t especially well-received. The Pearl Flip was commendable for being a significant departure in form factors for RIM at the time (even compared to the Storm), but the lower-end specs, reworked trackball layout, and prominent rear jut when open made for a fairly awkward phone. Recently, RIM and Sprint announced their second go at a clamshell BlackBerry, and have this time armed it with their best software, top-end specs, and their latest design principles. We’ve unboxed it and gave it a once-over, but here’s our full-blown review.
Despite the added gusto, reception to the early first looks have been less than stellar. Can the BlackBerry 9670 succeed where the Pearl Flip failed, or is RIM poised to be embarrassed just when the competition is getting stiff

Apple Peel 520

Go Solar USA has this to say about the new little gadget:
Apple’s iPod Touch is a powerful media player and pocket PC that can do everything an iPhone can do except place calls and text messages—until now. The Apple Peel 520 is a radical new third-party device that adds voice and text messaging capabilities to the iPod Touch for a fraction of the cost of an iPhone! This startling new technology is the creation of 22-year-old Chinese programmer Pan Yong. The Apple Peel 520 acts as a protective skin that slips over the iPod Touch’s case and includes a battery, dock connector and SIM card. Once the proper software is installed, the Apple Peel 520 adds the ability to make voice calls and text messages using any version of the iPod Touch. When fully charged, the Apple Peel’s 800mAh battery offers nearly five hours of talk time and 120 hours of standby use.
